Dear friends and partners,

It's official – today, the Catalan language law "Llei de la llengua pròpia i oficial," approved on April 25, 2024, was published on the official website of the Butlletí Oficial del Principat d'Andorra (BOPA) and is now in effect.

Who does this law affect?

All Andorran residence permit holders, who will now need to confirm their knowledge of the Catalan language to varying degrees and at different times:

1. Until 2026: Active residence permits (Residence and work)

First renewal: confirm completion of 30 hours of training.

2. From 2026 to 2029: Active residence permits (Residence and work)

First renewal: A1, second renewal: A2.

3. From 2029: All types of residence permits

First renewal: A1, second renewal: A2.

Thus, if you are interested in a residence permit through investment (passive, with a 90-day stay in the country), changes
will not affect you until 2029.

Additionally, free Catalan courses with a wide range of days and times are available for everyone wishing to study the language.
